Erb’s paralysis

Site of injury

One region on upper trunk of Brachial plexus where 6 nerves meet (Erb’s point)

Causes

Undue separation of head from the shoulder due to –

  •  Birth injury
  •  Fall on the shoulder
  •  During anaesthesia

Nerve Roots

C5-C6

Muscles involved

Biceps brachii, Deltoid, Brachialis, Brachioradialis, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus & Supinator (SBI Bank South Delhi Branch)

Deformity

Porter’s tip/ Policeman’s tip/ Waiter’s tip hand

Disability

  • Abduction & Lateral rotation of the arm and shoulder joint
  •  Extension and supination of the forearm
  •  Biceps and supinator jerks are lost
  •  Loss of sensation over the lower part of Deltoid region
