Shubhra Chhazed MGIMS Wardha topper

1.Congratulations on achieving such an amazing feat.   Tell  us  a  bit  about  yourself. Please  also  tell  us  your individual  marks  in  each subject.

I am Shubhra Chhazed, a 2nd MBBS student of MGIMS, Wardha.

2.So, when all of  this  is  new  and the  rest  of  us  are  still  busy  figuring the  head and tail  of  the  subject,  how  did you tackle  and master  the  syllabus?

It would be wrong to say I mastered the 3 subjects I believe, I have just grasped some basics of the subjects given short time span! The books that I referred:
Anatomy:A.K. Dutta
Histology:D’fiore, J P Gunasegran
Physiology:Guyton

3.Did you have  a  set  schedule, a time  table  that  you stuck to?  What  were  the  daily  hours  that  you put in self study  ?

I studied throughout the year, small topics each day, few concepts at a time. So, 3-4 hrs of self study daily helped me recollect matter at time of exams when the entire syllabus had to be tackled.

4.Did you have  a  different  methodology  of  tackling  the  subjects?  Any  special  notes  that  you prepared?

Not a strategy as such but yes,
I used to do group study for anatomy like studying bones together really helped, discussing with teachers and peers at the time of dissection. Also I used teach the topics I found difficult to my friends, and thus it helped me clear my understanding.

5.Do you have any  special  pointers  for  specific  subjects?  The  do’s  and don’ts  of  it?

Yes,mostly class notes and self made notes while reading.

6.Do you have any  special  pointers  for  specific  subjects?  The  do’s  and don’ts  of  it?

I could not give sufficient time for reading physiology as anatomy consumed most of my time. So I would suggest prioritizing to physiology is a wise thing to do.
Simultaneous solving of mcqs is a must.

7.Was there  any  help  that  you acquired while  exam  preparation?  Like  any  visual  aids  any  professional guidance?  Or  those  little  tit  bits  that  the  professors  tell  us  but  none  other than the  toppers  pay  attention to? Please  share  with us.

Yes,embryology videos are really helpful for visual understanding.
Always pay attention to points that professors repeat in class or practicals as they are usually the frequently asked viva or theory questions.

8.How vital  is  the  Question bank during  exams?  Does  it  come  highly  recommended  or  you advice  thorough reading  of  the  text  and having confound knowledge  of  the  subject?

Yeah, last 10 yrs question papers. It helps a lot to get an idea of the exams, you can predict the questions beforehand if u smartly analyse the past yrs papers.

9.How do you propose  the  students study and what kind  of  discipline  should be  followed during  exam  time?

Solving past yrs paper is vital when you have just a month left for your  exams, otherwise throughout the year non selective complete n thorough reading of text is must.

10.Could you give  some  important  pointers  on  Exam  writing skills?  And also  how  should  one  prepare  for  a practical  exam?

It’s important to underline stuff that u feel uplifts your ans, drawing clear and labeled diagrams, flow charts is always enhancing to your paper.
Lastly a neatly written paper often fetches good marks!

11.So, do you have  any  parting thoughts?  Like  disclosing that  secret  mantra  that  you  chanted  or  that  special brand of  energy  drink  you savored?  Just  seriously  though..anything at  all?

Never leave any question unanswered even if u do not know much about it. Also attempting long questions first was my way of  satisfactorily completing my paper on time.
