DEFINITION:
Diarrhoea is defined as the passage of 3 or more loose or liquid stools per day (or more frequent passage than is normal for the individual).
CAUSES OF DIARRHEA:
-Food Poisoning-Infections= Bacterial (E.coli, Shigella), Viral (Adenovirus, Rotavirus), Parasitic (Giardia lamblia)
-Lactose Intolerance
-Short bowel syndrome
-Hyperthyroidism
-Drugs= Magnesium containing antacids, Thyroxine, Oral hypoglycemic drugs
-Inflammatory Bowel disease- Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis
